Why I’m Building My Own Corner of the Internet

A first post for JackFWicks.com — mainly here to test the site and see what the finished experience feels like.

Most online platforms are designed around somebody else’s rules. Your profile, your content and even the way people discover your work all sit inside a system you do not control.

A personal website is different. It can be small, simple and almost completely ignored — but it is still yours. You decide what goes on the homepage, what gets archived, what gets linked, and what the site eventually becomes.

The useful part of a personal site is not knowing exactly what it will become. It is having somewhere for ideas to accumulate.

This test build starts deliberately broad. Technology, cyber security, investing, travel, projects and personal experiments could all fit here. Some of those ideas might disappear later. Others might become the whole point of the site.

The important thing is that the infrastructure exists first. Once that works, the rest is just editing.
